The Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, also known as St. Kitts and Nevis, has just announced the completion of their new $48 million cruise pier in Port Zante, Basseterre. Port Zante will now be able to accommodate up to 3 of the largest cruise ships at the same time. In order to fund this huge project, the $48 million was financed through local sources, including the country’s Citizenship by Investment Program which has been very successful in raising foreign investments.
The Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) recently met with tourism officials in St Kitts and Nevis to discuss the cruise sector and the booming development. Lindsey Grant, the Tourism Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis commented, “Our meetings ensure that we understand the needs of the cruise lines and their passengers, receive feedback on our service standards and guest experience, and provide insight into cruise industry trends, such as new ships and itineraries for upcoming seasons, all of which will help us to remain competitive as a premier cruise destination moving forward.”
For a small island of just 55,000 residents, St. Kitts’ cruise growth has been steady with 2 consecutive years of 1 million cruise passengers. They aim to be the number one destination in the Caribbean. Lindsey Grant commented on the future of the port, “We can now look forward to much larger ships starting to include St. Kitts in their itineraries, including the new future Oasis-class vessels from Royal Caribbean and even the new LNG generation ships from the Carnival Corp.” This update has made St. Kitts is one of the fastest growing cruise destinations in the Caribbean!
